Found on Otis & Carla’s Flickr are beautiful old photographs of American Motel & Liquor store signs, mostly from Texas. The images sort of remind me of this. More old Americana can be seen here.

Dieter Rams is one of the most influential industrial designers of all time. Much of his his career was spent working for the consumer electronics company Braun. He is also sited as being one of the major design inspirations for a little Cupertino, California company that you may have heard of. The Dieter Rams Flickr pool can be found here.

At some point my obsession with Ernest Hemingway led to a love and appreciation of typewriters. Nothing is more pure then a typed letter on a manual type writer. I’m sure this fascination with type runs parallel to my affinity of natural, non-plastic materials. The Writing Machines group on Flickr has an interesting archive of different makes and models of manual typewriters. Some of my favorites are pictured below.

One of the greatest feelings in the world is getting your first set of business cards. I remember the quiet sense of accomplishment when I got my first printing. I have since become a bit of business card snob. I remember walking in the rain a few years ago to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to oversee the production of my letterpress cards from Woodside Press. The business card Flickr pool has some really creative and cool examples.
